Ebook About
“A gripping and poignant ode to a messy, loving family in all its glory.” —Madeline Miller, New York Times bestselling author of Circe   A New York Times BestsellerLonglisted for the Women's Prize for Fiction   In this “rich, complex family saga” (USA Today) full of long-buried family secrets, Marilyn Connolly and David Sorenson fall in love in the 1970s, blithely ignorant of all that awaits them. By 2016, they have four radically different daughters, each in a state of unrest.   Wendy, widowed young, soothes herself with booze and younger men; Violet, a litigator turned stay-at-home-mom, battles anxiety and self-doubt; Liza, a neurotic and newly tenured professor, finds herself pregnant with a baby she's not sure she wants by a man she's not sure she loves; and Grace, the dawdling youngest daughter, begins living a lie that no one in her family even suspects.   With the unexpected arrival of young Jonah Bendt—a child placed for adoption by one of the daughters fifteen years before—the Sorensons will be forced to reckon with the rich and varied tapestry of their past. As they grapple with years marred by adolescent angst, infidelity, and resentment, they also find the transcendent moments of joy that make everything else worthwhile.

Book The Most Fun We Ever Had: A Novel Review :

I purchased this book based on the reviews and I am sorry to say that I wish I had waited for a copy from the library instead of spending my money on it. I realize that I am in the minority here amongst the 5 star reviews but this book just isn't doing anything for me. I am up to the beginning part entitled Fall. I am already tired of the constant drama between the sisters and their negativity toward one another. So far there is not one moment of happiness or brightness in this book and I feel like I am slogging through to finish it. These four sisters are beyond dysfunctional to the point of unbelief. That aside, my biggest complaint is the language. Having read tons of books in my lifetime I consider myself pretty resilient to reading (and casting aside) the use of foul language and sex scenes but this novel takes the use of the F word way too far with it being used on practically every page and many times on a single page or two. I don't see any advantage to the continual use of such a derogatory word. If anything it is taking away from the book. I will finish reading it but I certainly won't be recommending it to anyone.
This book is a beast. I felt like I had read a thousand pages and was only 10% in. That being said, I found it annoying, over worked and fraught with too much detail to be interesting. The language was over the top and felt like it was overcompensating for annoying characters. This book easily could have been 200 pages shorter, and likely much more interesting. I skipped about 60% of the book and don’t feel I missed anything. When I jumped back in at the end, I found myself simultaneously asking “what’s the point” and being relieved that it was done. Wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone.
